The Hanalei Bay Swim Challenge is the signature fundraising event for the Namolokama OʻHanalei Canoe Club.

The only event of its kind on Kauai, the Hanalei Bay Swim Challenge consists of five races: ages 8 & under, ages 9 – 12, 1000 meters, 3000 meters, and 1000-meter mask & fin (no snorkels). Now in its 15th year, this beautiful open water swim has grown from 60 swimmers to close to 200 with ages 4 to 80+ years young.

For the 2023 event, participants came from Hawaii, California, New York, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Texas, and several other locations throughout the United States. International visitors from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, England, and Japan have visited beautiful Kauai to swim in the event.

Past support from generous sponsors has made the Hanalei Bay Swim Challenge the successful event it is today. Proceeds from the event help support Namolokama OʻHanalei Canoe Club, one of the smallest of the 11 canoe clubs on Kauai. Namolokama OʻHanalei strives to teach the art of traditional and cultural Hawaiian Canoe paddling and good sportsmanship through competitive canoe racing. Members ranging in age from teenagers to 80+ years have been proud to represent Kauai in events around the state, in New York City and at the World Sprints in Tahiti, World Distance Championships in Australia, and the World Masters Event in New Zealand.

Sponsoring this event allows you to support the paddling community and families on the North Shore along with giving your company the opportunity to receive pre-event, event day, and post-event visibility. Email hanaleibayswim@namolokama.org if you’d like to sponsor the event.
